New Governing Body Member: Hugo Riemer - More WT Revisionist History
by 00DAD inas part of the wt's recent push to get the r&f "to study and recount the history of the earthly part of jehovahs organization" there is a curious article in the from our archives featurette of the august 15th, 2012 watchtower.
it offers a highly sanitized version of early jw history.
but what is particularly strange is this revisionist history re-categorizing of an early bible student/jw, one hugo riemer.

Do JWs really notice significant doctrinal change?
by keyser soze inall of these threads about the 'new light' regarding the fds has got me wondering.
as ex-jws, we've trained ourselves to notice such things.
we tend to treat them as if they're of great significance, even convey a certain level of optimism that it will actually wake some up, make some think, even lead to some sort of mass revolution within the ranks.. do rank-and-file jws really see any significance, or is it just wishful thinking?

When asked who the Faithful and Discrete Slave is, the majority of Witnoids would have said the Governing Body anyway. They don't even know their own docrtines. Hell the doctrines change more often than people change socks.

8-12a slave who is both faithful and discreetwho really is the faithful and discreet slave whom his master appointed over his domestics?matthew 24:45.. on tuesday afternoon, nisan 11, 33 c.e., jesus disciples raised a question that has profound meaning for us today.
they asked him: what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?

I am so lost here, this isn't new from what I read. What am I missing? Someone want to clarify it simply for those of us who are a little thick? I do seem to remember an article in the WT in the 80s that spoke of the Governing body as something "new under the sun" in contradiction to the scripture that says there is nothing new under the sun. That article made me step back and question. What's all the hubbubb here?

I would definitely put some coleslaw on the agenda. Stay away from the ribs, salad is best.

Have you met anyone on the Governing Body?
by Christ Alone ini posted on another thread about a couple of my experiences of meeting the governing body while i was in brooklyn.
i wanted to see if anyone else had any experiences along these same lines.
i met most of the ones that were current during the 2001-2003 years.

Met Gangas in the 80's at Bethel and Barber at a DC. Gangas was losing it and Barber was an ass.

Encounter with two elders last night
by sd-7 ini realized recently that this was the start of a new service year (read: fi$cal year), so of course i figured it was possible the elders would make their usual rounds and show up uninvited.
it hadn't occurred to me that they would approach me as i was picking up my family from the meeting last night.
as i was getting my daughter situated, the chairman of my judicial committee says, "hey!

The CO checks the records to see if they are following up on the Society's direction to contact disfellowshipped ones who might show some repentantce. You were at the Hall and that shows a glimmer of hope to them. Lames.

Did guilt force you into relationships with negative or selfish people?
by HelpMeBelieve inhow much force did guilt play into your relationships with other witnesses?
we wasted so much of our lives chasing things that are not real, love that was highly conditional and relationships with people that evaporated once we started to fade away.. .
i would force myself to talking with nutty brothers who seemed to be "short their rent each month, never able to catch up".

There was a brother who I was "friends" with who was from deep back in the woods. I put up with a lot of eccentricities but when I realized that Jesus didn't care if I put up with his BS or not I was glad to be rid of him. I fed his ass and drove him everywhere thinking he was my friend. You know who turned on me when I faded? Yep, Clem from the hollar. When he started putting his hands in his pants to itch that itch and then offered his hand for a shake I was done. I wouldn't give that guy the time of day now. Yuck.

Leaving Jehovah's Witnesses is NOT the same as the doctrines leaving you
by Terry inif you grow up speaking english and you move to mexico you don't automatically speak spanish, know customs, understand currency, possess skills.
for self-support or have any special insight into latino mindset.. .
why would you expect leaving jehovah's witnesses would leave you any less ill-equipped to navigate the real world?.

Reading the book "the History of the Bible in English" managed to blow the Bible's authority out of the water for me. It followed the history of the Bible from earliest manuscripts and the formation of the "Canon" to the most modern english translations. That will give you doubts. Terry, the info was very practical and happifying. lol Really did love the thread, thanks.
